1. Why do you think some people refer to Barb Tarbox as the “antismoking lobby’s greatest weapon”?

I think they prefer her as the "antismoking lobby's greatest weapon" because she goes to different high schools and informs everyone on what smoking can do to you. She also shows her transformation from when she started presenting to what she was in the end. She also lived through the tragedy so now everyone would know what you can look like and how you can feel.

2. What warnings did Tarbox get that indicated that she needed to quit smoking?
Her mother died from lung cancer when she was 21 and the doctor told her that she needed to stop of she would get lung cancer and she would not be alive in 20 years. Also 19 years later she was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer which indicated that she needed to stop or she would die very quickly.

3. Why do you think it was very hard for Tarbox to quit smoking?
It was hard for her because her brain was addicted to nicotine so she couldn't stop.

4. What does Tarbox think has been giving her the strength to live longer than anyone expected?
She thinks that the teenagers that she speaks to are helping her cheat death and live longer than anyone else.

Reflection
Imagine having to say goodbye to someone you love. Imagine you are never
going to see them again. Write a 250-500 word letter to that person, telling them how much you care for them and how much you are going to miss them.
I'm going to miss you so much, I will miss all the good times we shared together. Talking about random things and just laughing all the time, I will miss those days. I will miss the times when we go out together and when you made me go into the store almost everyday after school to buy things. I will miss the times when we watched Biggest Loser and Survivor. I wish I would of treated you better. I was always mad every time you called me,  I was just lazy. All the times we played cards together and you would think I cheated all the time, those were good times. I really cared about you, I could always come and talk to you about anything, but I would normally get mad because you tried to make me feel like the other person was right. You were always there for me and I wish I could of been there for you every time you needed help. I miss helping you, even though it seemed like I hated it. I love you grandma <3.

Your self image is who you are and what you want to be. You normally want to be like someone on T.V or in a movie. So a lot of the people will change themselves so they look like that person. Which causes a lot of people to get really depressed because they can't be exactly like that person. I like to make people think that I'm a nice and funny person, that's my self image. But I want to look like a lot of people look on T.V which is normally a bad thing. I feel that if  I look like someone from T.V, people will like me more. But that isn't true and it only hurts myself. Just be yourself, don't change who you are for other people.

One of the careers I want is a lawyer. I want to be a lawyer because the make a whole lot of money. They make over 125,000$ a year! I would have so much stuff! But the only thing I'm scared of is when I would be in court, which is what a lawyer does. It would take a lot to always have a big point to prove, I would have about 2 words to say every time. Another reason I want to be a lawyer is because my friend Nick hopes to become a lawyer so it would be cool to have a job with him. But that was before I learned about careers. It's not always about how much money you make, it's about if you enjoy it. Because if you don't enjoy something you do you will be really stressed out. But also, a lot of jobs aren't what you expected them to be. A lot of the time you see something really cool and awesome on T.V and you instantly want that job. But it's just television. A lot of those jobs in real life are actually boring. I still want to be a lawyer but this made me realize that lawyers have a lot of paper work to do and before court they can get really stressed. But I still want the job because of money, I know it's not about the money but for me it is!

In the assignment I learned that Anorexia and Bulimia are somewhat similar eating disorders. Anorexia is an eating disorder that makes someone constantly think they are too fat. They want the "perfect body" so they start to lose weight constantly. They will start to weigh themselves a lot and say that they are too fat as well. They will start to exercise to extreme levels to try and get perfect. But they will eat very very little. They won't get the nutritions they need and they will get very dehydrated which will cause them to get really sick. They will also lose muscle mass so they will get very weak. They also tend to gag themselves to help lose weight. Bulimia is an eating disorder where a person won't eat all day and then at a certain moment they will eat everything they can. They will be starving the whole day then they will over indulge themselves with food. But after they fill themselves of they will "purge". Purging is when after you eat something you go to the bathroom and puke out all the food you just ate to "avoid losing weight". The person will constantly think they are fat, a normal time they think they are fat is after they eat because when they are full, they think that causes them to gain weight. This can cause a lot of damage. It can affect your heart majorly. Your heart muscles will be weakened and your heart can start to have irregular beats. This can also affect your stomach. Your stomach can start to have a lot of pain, the emptying of the stomach can be delayed and it can even be ruptured. I learned that these two eating disorders exist all around the world. People see the "perfect body" on television or on a magazine and they want to look just like them so people start extreme dieting and exercising. But they don't know that this is unhealthy for your body. These people will always think they are fat unless they get help from friends or processionals. People die from these eating disorders. You can help by not calling people fat even if it's a joke because they can take it very seriously. Just compliment them on their achievements and strengths. Also talk to them if you think they have an eating disorder and then you can help them get over it.

 Thank you for your time.

  • In an age when we have so much information at our disposal, why do we still make choices based on advertising and marketing? (Think back to the advertising unit about body image)

We make bad decisions because we want to be like everyone else. If everyone is eating McDonald's, you would want to eat it to because you would be "normal" and you would fit in society. If you never ate at McDonald's some people might think you're some weirdo or nerd or something and most people don't want to be called names so they would start eating there so they would stop thinking that you're some social outcast.

How does society dictate our consumption? (Make a lot of money, buy BIG CAR, BIG HOUSE, MORE MORE MORE)
Society thinks that we buy too much, especially food. Most Americans buy fast food 3 or 4 times a week so we consume a lot of our money on food. Then we buy big everything ( house, car etc.) to top it all off. ( I have no idea what this questions meant and I couldn't ask because a certain someone was on YouTube .__.).

Why are they repeatedly comparing cigarette smokers and overweight people? (Important Connection)
They are always comparing each other because cigarettes are the number one cause of deaths in America and obesity is in the number two spot. But deaths from obesity is rapidly increasing and it is coming closer and closer to being the number one cause of deaths in America.

Do you believe that people can have food addictions? Why or why not? (This Question Connects to previous question)
I think that food addictions are real. The reason is because when people eat different food they prefer one item so they will keep eating that item more often. Then more often, then more often until that's basically all you eat. Then whenever you eat something else it would taste really weird to you. But also, if you were addicted to a certain food, you would only eat it if it's around you. Chocolate for example, if it's there, you're likely to eat all of it quite quickly.

In March 2004, Congress passed a bill that would make it illegal for people to sue food companies for making them obese.  What was that bill called?
The bill was called the "Cheeseburger Bill" .

My dream life is to live on beach front property in a big house with lots of windows. The house will have a bridge that will connects the two halves of the house so it will look awesome and it will look like two houses in one. The house will also have a waterfall somewhere, probably falling from the roof and it will go over both sides of the bridge. The house will be probably worth 4.5 million dollars. The house would be located somewhere in California, preferably Long Beach. But all that really matters is if it's a place that has nicely coloured water. I would also know how to surf and always be the sexiest guy at the beach 8). I would be married to someone..... very sexy, but smart, so she would be a brunette :). We would have two or three kids that are all good looking and are good at hockey or soccer. I would work as a space marine fighting all the bad guys... from space :D. PEW PEW I'M FIREEEIINN MAH LAZAAH. I would make at least 200k a year as a rookie but when I get to a higher position I'd probably make 400k or more a year. I would drive a Ford Mustang Shelby GT, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti and a nice BMW. We would go on vacation 1 or 2 times a year to places like Disney World for the kids and the Caribbean for me and my sexy wife. By the time I became 35 I would a multi billionaire, having about 70 billion dollars in the bank. I would also win 3 MEGA lotteries in three different states: California, Florida and Washington DC. All these wins would come to about 2 billion dollars. I would also become the Commander and Chief of the Space Marines making 1 million dollars a year. I would also lead the Space Marines to win 30 different battles across the galaxy yet also be-friending many other life forms. At this time I would buy a cat named Herp and a golden retriever named Derp. By the time I would turn 45, my oldest son ( No name) would become a star NHL goalie and he would play for the Canucks. My other one or two kids would still be in school. I would then retire at 50 with 80 billion dollars in my bank and give each of my kids 10 billion dollars to move out. Then me and my wife could go on vacation all the time. I would also give 10 billion dollars to different charities to help them out and the people they are supporting. I would then create a mechanism that would keep me and my family young and alive for twice the average human age. I would then die at 160 from getting shot by a hitman trying to get my money.

First of all, I was pretty mad when I first saw the video. How we didn't help right away to stop the slaughter and mutilation of countless children. even if we knew we left it be. Even if no one knew about it. they're young children that are killing people. If that happened here. Just one child, it would be everywhere on the news. But over there, over 30,000 children are going threw this. And we decide to broadcast a potato chip commercial. But I was pretty sad when I seen what they did to some kids faces. The just mutilated them. They are young children, they can't even live a normal life now because their face is scared. Now that I seen the full video I want to help and get my word out there so that other people know about it. The government needs to do more and the only way they will do more if people care. Kony needs to be stopped.

Questions
1. A child soldier is a person under the age of 18 that takes part in an armed force or armed group.
2. They are used because they will do whatever you want because they are scared and they are easy to abduct, normally without a big fight.
3. It should be illegal because children will do everything because they are scared. They also shouldn't be used because they will be scared for life from all the people they have killed. Children aren't supposed to be using guns. If you use child soldiers you are ruining the next generation of people by making them violent and making them want to hurt others.

  • It causes physical and mental damage
  • They will loose their childhood
  • They will do anything because they are scared. So they will kill a lot of people.
  • You have to abduct the child to make them become child soldiers. (illegal)
Next:
It began because the gorvernement was bad so Kony said he'd step up and everyone believed him because they had no hope. But Kony just wanted power so he tried to start an army but no one wanted to so he started to kidnap young children.

The LRA is a large group of children that have been kidnapped that are forced to shoot their parents and kill people because they are too scared too run or look for help. They are fighting for Kony to gain power but what they want to fight for is their freedom.

They begin by someone wanting power or seaking revenge on something.

A) The Invisible Children created the video to inform people about what Kony is doing and to raise awareness around the world
B) The author is saying that he supports Kony 2012 but he doesn't like the company that runs it because they take most of the money for themselves and they give they only give a small amount to the actual problem. He is also mad because they are defending a group of soldiers that also rape and loot villages.
C) Social media developped this story because that's what this era revolves around so The Invisible Children created the video bewcause they know people would pay attention to it and more people would watch it and be aware of what's going on. So they started to use it more to educate people about what's going on.
D) They were accurate but it was a little bit too much. They used a lot of hyperbole and such so people would see that what's going on is really bad. I think it's a good way to contact people because everyone watches it so a lot of people will see the video and realize what's going on.

1. Why did Mark create "Facesmash"?
To compare two different girls at once and rate which one is hotter.

2.  Do you believe that this website could lead to young women feeling insecure about their appearance?  Based on our discussions in class, how do you think most of these women would react to their ratings.
Probably most of the women would feel anger or depression because other people can leave bad ratings and leave anonymous comments that can say bad things about them.

3. Do you think Mark was a cyberbully?  Please elaborate?
I don't think he was because when he said all of those mean things about the people online he was drunk.

4. When does Mark decide to expand the site to other schools? What role did Erica have in this decision?
When enough people joined the site he thought of expanding and Erica helped by doing something.

5. “I was your only friend - you had one friend,” Eduardo tells Mark across the deposition table. What is Mark and Eduardo's friendship like? Why did it break down?
I think their relationship was based strictly on money, fame and power. But when Mark got too greedy and didn't give Eduardo enough credit. Eduardo got really mad at all the greediness Mark had so they stopped being friends.

6. How did Mark get the idea to include relationship status on Facebook profiles? What explanation does he give to Eduardo for including this on Facebook?
He got the idea from when a guy asked him if this girl was single and then that gave Mark an idea to add relationship status to let people know if you're single or not.

7. “As if every thought that tumbles through your head was so clever it would be a crime for it not to be shared,” Mark's ex Erica snaps at Mark. Why are people drawn to the idea of broadcasting their personal lives on the internet?
I think they like to broadcast it because they don't have to be face to face to the person(s) and they can get sympathy from everyone.

8. “The internet's not written in pencil, Mark. It's written in ink,' states Erica, seething at the comments he blogged about her. Why is the typed word so powerful? Why is it tempting to misuse this power online? What positive things can social-networking sites achieve when used to their full potential?
I think it was powerful because you can erase pencil writing but you can't erase ink, it's always there. Also social-networking sites can bring a lot of people together and you can make keep connected with other friends.

9. In what ways does Facebook encourage us to define ourselves? How does this affect our identity and self-image?
It affects your identity because a lot of people try to take better pictures of themselves and edit the photo's so you like a supermodel and a lot of people like to lie on Facebook so it creates a certain image of yourself.

10. How are the themes of 'coolness' and money played out through the film? How do you think users of Facebook will react to knowing that, by sharing their lives publicly, they are allowing someone else to make billions from their personal information?
I think that money and coolness broke down peoples friendships and made Mark get greedy. I also think people would get mad that their personal lives are making someone else money but not making themselves money.
11. Facebook has around 500 million members worldwide. What impact has it had on our culture?
A lot of people spend all day on Facebook and it can cause a lot of drama between people. Also a lot of people talk about what happened on Facebook during their actual lives.

If I knew someone that was being bullied I would probably tell an adult considering that the person would probably be too scared to tell anyone with the thought of being picked on even more. If that didn't do anything i'd would probably tell that person that they need to change schools before they get hurt too badly or have suicidal thoughts. If the person didn't want to change schools I would probably take matters into my own hands and be the personal bodyguard of that person and I would protect them always :D ( of course I would have a small fee of 20$ plus tax/hour so an average school day is 6 hours then that person would have to pay me 124.76$ a day for personal assistance).
